What students summarize

Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants, algae, and some bacteria convert light energy into chemical energy. Using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide, plants produce glucose and release oxygen as a by-product. The process takes place mainly in the leaves, inside structures called chloroplasts that contain the green pigment chlorophyll. Photosynthesis is essential for life on Earth because it provides the oxygen we breathe and forms the base of most food chains.
